Southbound Interstate 5 is closed near Arena Boulevard in Sacramento following a chase and deadly shooting involving deputies early Tuesday morning.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, a carjacking suspect was shot near I-5 and Arena Boulevard. No law enforcement officers were hurt in the shooting.
The suspect has died, the sheriff’s office says. The suspect’s identity has not been released at this time.

California Highway Patrol says southbound I-5 is completely shut down in the area, but the northbound direction is unaffected.
It’s unclear how long the freeway will be closed. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area, with traffic being diverted at Del Paso Boulevard for the time being.
