1. La Mirada (18-2): The Matadores are on a nine-game win streak. They play key Gateway League games against Warren and Gahr this week.

2. Los Alamitos (12-8): The Griffins’ only game this week is a Sunset League contest against Fountain Valley.

3. Millikan (14-5): The Rams have a showdown against Long Beach Poly for first place in the Moore League on Thursday at El Dorado Park (Field 5) at 3:30 p.m.

4. St. Joseph (16-2): The Jesters jump back into Del Rey League play this week with road games against Bishop Montgomery and St. Paul.

5. Downey (16-4): The Vikings have a crosstown rivalry game against Warren on Thursday.

6. Long Beach Poly (8-3): The Jackrabbits must beat Millikan this week to claim a share of first place in the Moore League.

7. Gahr (11-9): The Gladiators get their first shot at the area’s No. 1-ranked team when they play at La Mirada on Thursday. Traditionally, Gahr has been La Mirada’s toughest opponent in the Gateway League.

8. Valley Christian (7-5): The Defenders beat Kennedy and lost to California last week. They play Olympic League games against Whittier Christian and Maranatha this week. Junior Tallulah Ireland has a team-high 18 RBIs.

9. Warren (13-8): The Bears play Gateway League games against No. 1 La Mirada and No. 4 Downey this week. It is a great opportunity for Warren to test itself against two of the area’s top teams.
