Anyone who adores a certain celebrated ship, the one that has made a home in Long Beach for nearly 60 years, is most definitely Team Queen Mary, without quibble.
But there are also a few different sorts of fandoms where the atmospheric ocean-liner is concerned, with the phantom fans coming in strong thanks to an engaging lineup of ghost tours and supernatural experiences and all of the eerie nighttime adventures on the capacious ship.
Still, time travelers, or at least those people who love to sashay in the vintage styles of yesteryear, are seen frequently around the handsome decks of the Queen Mary, and their moment is coming this July.
That’s when a four-day and three-night Summer Vacation Experience, one that is “Inspired by the Onboard Program Archives,” will “set sail,” at least in spirit, aboard the ocean-liner.
And by “set sail” we definitely don’t mean the Queen Mary is again taking to the waves, which it hasn’t done in decades; rather, the ship will celebrate in much the same way it did just before the Queen Mary arrived in Long Beach, its future and permanent home, in 1967.
A “curated lineup of onboard programming,” including the “Last Great Cruise” Hat Party finale, will fill out the revelries from July 20-23, 2026. And breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be part of the all-inclusive package.
“This vacation package is more than a stay, it is a fully immersive experience that blends history, storytelling, and the Southern California coastline in a way only the Queen Mary can deliver,” said Steve Caloca, Managing Director of the Queen Mary.
Games that delighted passengers decades ago, historical tours, and gleeful goings-on that boast a timeless feel are on the schedule, as are fitness classes, cute diversions for the youngsters, and a lounge for guests enjoying the package.
Wearing something from the era of “Mad Men” is up to you, of course, but count on time travelers, or at least those who aspire to move backward and forward through the eras, to be out in festive force.
And there are few eras-spanning portals in Southern California making that sort of journey as easy as the Queen Mary, which is marking the 90th anniversary of its maiden voyage in 2026 through a host of historical and entertainment programs.
Including this lively late-July jamboree, a playful package boasting just a touch of ghostly glamour and sepia-splashy splendor.
Book your stateroom — prices will vary by who all is joining in your room, do note — and review the list of package perks and offerings now, before this throwback party leaves the proverbial port.
