The Parkinson’s Association of San Diego presented its 24th annual Step by Step Walk to help fight Parkinson’s disease April 11 at Liberty Station in Point Loma.
Participants could walk or run on a 5K (3.1-mile) course or 2.5K (1.55 miles). The event also included more than 50 exhibitors.
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that causes nerve cells in parts of the brain to weaken, become damaged and die. Symptoms can include problems with movement, tremors, stiffness and impaired balance and later difficulty walking, talking or completing simple tasks.
The Parkinson’s Association supports thousands of people affected by the disease in San Diego County, including providing aid to caregivers and families.
