LOS ANGELES – The No. 12 USC baseball team fell on the road at Long Beach State on Tuesday night, dropping a 5-3 decision despite a late push.

Augie Lopez homered in the eighth inning to close the game, but is wasn’t enough as the Trojans fell to 30-8 on the season. The Dirtbags improve to 12-23.

Jack Basseer plated USC’s first run of the game with a pinch-hit double in the seventh inning and then Lopez hit a two-run shot in the eighth, but that was it for the Trojan offense.

Long Beach State scored a pair of runs in both the first and fourth innings, and matched USC’s run in the eighth.

For Lopez, it was his team-high 11th homer of the year and seventh long ball in his last 11 games.
