A 26-year-old California man drowned in the Colorado River near Laughlin, Nevada, on Monday while attempting to recover a hat from the water, according to authorities.
Emergency crews arrived at the river near Davis Camp, a park on the Arizona and Nevada state line, at about 11:15 a.m. on Monday for a possible drowning, the Bullhead City Police Department wrote on social media. They had received reports that a man failed to resurface after entering the water from a pontoon boat. The man was trying to recover a hat from the water that had blown off, police said.
Police identified the man as Kristopher Nathaniel Logan of San Marcos, California. Logan was pronounced dead at the scene after his body was recovered by the Bullhead City Fire Department. His drowning was accidental, and he was not wearing a life jacket, police said.
The Colorado River’s strong currents claim the lives of swimmers and boaters every year. In August 2025, two men from California drowned while swimming in the river in Mojave County near the California-Arizona state line. The month prior, a man from San Diego drowned in the river near Yuma, Arizona, while rescuing two boys who had gotten caught in the current.
