A jury has been selected in the case of Sacramento’s deadliest shooting in history.The April 3, 2022, shooting along K Street in downtown Sacramento left six people dead and 12 others injured. Of the six killed, three were innocent bystanders, while the others were part of the gunbattle investigators say was gang-related.Dandrae Martin and Mtula Payton, who have pleaded not guilty, are facing murder and weapons violations. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday that a jury had been selected and would be sworn in next Tuesday before opening statements. A third person, Smiley Martin, was also arrested in connection, but he was found dead in jail in June 2024. His listed cause of death was methadone toxicity.The three victims are 21-year-old Johntaya “JoJo” Alexander, 57-year-old Melinda Davis and 21-year-old Yamile Martinez-Andrade.The other three people who died were 29-year-old DeVazia Turner, 38-year-old Sergio Harris and 32-year-old Joshua Hoye-Luchessi.
