(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office announced on Wednesday that a jury has been selected in the case of the 2022 K Street mass shooting that left six people dead and a dozen others injured.
The DA’s office confirmed to FOX40 that opening statements are scheduled to begin Tuesday after jurors are formally sworn in.
Mtula Payton and Dandrae Martin are facing multiple murder charges in connection with the April 3, 2022, shooting in downtown Sacramento, the DA’s office said.
Authorities reported that the gunfire erupted during a large fight in a crowded nightlife area, sending hundreds of people fleeing and leaving 12 others wounded.
A third suspect, Smiley Martin, was also charged in the case but was found dead in his jail cell in June 2024. Officials stated that his death was the result of a methadone overdose.
If convicted, officials said that Payton and Martin could face life in prison.
