(FOX40.COM) — California Attorney General Rob Bonta and local law enforcement partners announced Wednesday the arrest of a Stockton suspect identified as a prohibited firearm possessor, along with the seizure of multiple weapons and ammunition.
The investigation began after authorities flagged the individual through California’s Armed and Prohibited Persons System, which tracks gun owners who were later barred from possessing firearms.
Agents with the California Department of Justice, working alongside the San Joaquin County Probation Department, determined the suspect owned illegal weapons.
During the service of a search warrant, officials said agents seized a revolver, a shotgun, a standard-capacity magazine and approximately 330 rounds of ammunition of various calibers.
“In our efforts to retrieve one gun from a prohibited individual, we uncovered an additional illegal firearm,” Bonta said in a statement, emphasizing the role of the system in enhancing public safety.
The suspect was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail and faces charges related to possession of firearms in violation of a court order.
Authorities did not immediately release the suspect’s name.
California established the Armed and Prohibited Persons System in 2006, becoming the first state to create a database designed to identify individuals who legally obtained firearms but later became prohibited from owning or possessing them.
