Re “Swalwell resigns from office amid burgeoning sex assault scandal” (April 13): Has everyone forgotten the concept of a presumption of innocence? Today, apparently, every male boss can be accused of sexual assault, and without any substantive evidence, be convicted by the public.
No man can touch a woman’s shoulder without risking his job. We all know that women were often treated horribly in the past when they accused their bosses of sexual misconduct, but the pendulum has swung way too far.
It’s important to require substantial proof before convicting you, me or anyone else of alleged wrongdoing. Watching Eric Swalwell’s congressional colleagues pile on simply confirms my opinion of politicians.
Remember Matt Araiza? Dale Akiki? Al Franken? Nathan Fletcher? All impressive, productive, responsible men, convicted by the media but not proven to have done anything beyond childish behavior or having affairs with other consenting adults, or just plain falsely accused.
