ST. IGNATIUS, Mont. – Nathaniel Luke Smith appeared before Judge M. Leishman during Night Court on October 27. Smith pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct related to an incident at Mission High School on October 8.

Chief Jason L. Acheson of the St. Ignatius Police Department reported that Smith accepted the fines and penalties imposed by the court. The charges arose from a disturbance and threats reported at the school, which required law enforcement intervention.

Smith was already serving a three-year deferred sentence for intimidation from November 2024. He is required to report to his probation officer with the Montana Department of Corrections for further sentencing details.

The St. Ignatius Police Department expressed gratitude to partner agencies, including the Montana Department of Corrections, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Flathead Tribal Law Enforcement, for their assistance in the investigation.

Chief Acheson reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to Mission Schools. “At no time were school operations disrupted, and the safety of our community, schools, faculty and students was maintained throughout the incident,” he said.

The department emphasized that ensuring the safety and security of Mission Schools and the community remains a top priority.
