A San Francisco man was charged with murder Thursday for allegedly killing a man in Richmond during a shootout five years ago, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office said.
Reno Goldie Fiapoto, 26, was also charged with unlawful participation in a criminal street gang.
The victim, 21-year-old Derrick McDougal, was fatally shot at about 8:40 a.m. on March 16, 2021, on the 2200 block of Barrett Avenue, not far from 23rd Street.
Fiapoto was arrested on April 14 following a multiyear investigation involving the Richmond and San Francisco police departments, the FBI and a regional task force. The case was referred to the district attorney’s office on Wednesday.
Fiapoto was arraigned in Martinez on Thursday and is being held without bail at the county jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 27.
