1 man dead after early morning shooting in Sacramento, Sheriff says

THIS HAPPENED AT AN APARTMENT COMPLEX ON ASHDALE COURT AROUND MIDNIGHT. KCRA 3’S ERIN HEFT JOINS US NOW WITH THE VERY LATEST ON THIS INVESTIGATION. ERIN. AND IT’S AN ACTIVE INVESTIGATION STILL, AS OF THIS MORNING, THIS HAPPENED JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT. WE’RE STANDING HERE AT 7:00 IN THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, AND THEIR DETECTIVES ARE STILL ON SCENE. IF I STEP OUT OF THE WAY, THIS IS THAT ACTIVE INVESTIGATION. IT’S AT THE ASHDALE COURT APARTMENT COMPLEX. SO WHAT WE KNOW, ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS WITH THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, THEY SAID DISPATCH WAS NOTIFIED OF WHAT SOUNDED LIKE GUNSHOTS IN THIS AREA AT 1220 EARLY IN THE MORNING. THE PERSON WHO CALLED 911 WAS ABLE TO SEE THE VICTIM LAYING OUTSIDE THEIR APARTMENT, AND WHEN DEPUTIES ARRIVED, THEY FOUND A MAN WHO HAD BEEN SHOT. BOTH DEPUTIES AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RENDERED MEDICAL AID TO THAT MAN, BUT ULTIMATELY HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. NOW, AS YOU CAN SEE AT THIS TIME, HOMICIDE DETECTIVES AS WELL AS CSI INVESTIGATORS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE INVESTIGATION BECAUSE AS OF RIGHT NOW, THERE IS NO INFORMATION ON A SUSPECT OR SUSPECTS. WE ARE ABLE TO SEE THAT THERE IS STILL EVIDENCE COLLECTION HAPPENING. THERE’S A LOT OF PICTURES BEING TAKEN AT THIS TIME, AND THEY’RE ALSO SWITCHING OUT DEPUTIES AT THIS MOMENT. A homicide investigation is underway after a man was found dead with a gunshot wound early Saturday morning, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.The sheriff’s office said the call came in just after midnight. The caller reported the sound of a gunshot and male victim near the 4600 block of Ashdale Court. Deputies arrived on the scene and located the victim with at least one gunshot wound and began administering medical aid. Sacramento Metro Fire Department responded and pronounced the man deceased, the sheriff’s office said. This is an ongoing investigation with Sacramento Sheriff homicide detectives and CSI on scene.
