Thai Town is a vibe. When exploring the abundance of Thai restaurants on Hollywood Boulevard from Normandie to Western Avenues, you’ll undoubtedly stumble across Sapp Coffee Shop, one of East Hollywood’s oldest dining destinations that opened in the 1970s. Though ownership has changed hands in recent years, the dishes remain as vibrant and bold as ever, especially its signature boat noodles and jade noodles. Take a moment to hover over a steaming bowl of boat noodles, breathing in the deeply rich and darkened broth full of ingredients that can satisfy just about any palate.
The dining room can best be described as sparse yet cozy. It’s also an ideal place to casually people-watch while sitting in an unfussy room with a table full of traditional, precisely rendered Thai dishes.
Sapp does not accept reservations; as expected, lunch and dinner hours can get busy. They close early, anywhere from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., so plan accordingly.
