Now, one of them just claimed the top spot: USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards has officially crowned Pismo Beach as the Best Coastal Small Town in America, based on thousands of votes submitted by readers online. 

The ranking highlights standout seaside destinations across the country, and California made a strong showing, with four different towns landing on the list.

What makes Pismo Beach the #1 town

Located on the Central Coast, Pismo Beach is a quiet spot with wide-open beaches that offer a peaceful escape, while nearby wineries and outlet shopping add an extra layer to the experience.

Once known as the “Clam Capital of the World,” the area built its reputation around the abundance of Pismo clams found along its shoreline. While large-scale harvesting has long been restricted, the nickname remains a proud nod to its coastal history and seafood culture.
