(FOX40.COM) — At least five people were injured in a “violent assault” near Howe Park Saturday evening, Sacramento Metro Fire said.
According to Sacramento County Sheriff’s spokesperson Edward Igoe, sheriff’s office deputies were breaking up an unauthorized gathering of “several hundred people” at the park when the shooting occurred.
Igoe said deputies heard between 20 to 25 gunshots.
Fire personnel responded and took at four people with gunshot wounds to medical facilities for treatment.
Two patients were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, another was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and one patient was taken to “an additional site” for treatment, Sacramento Metro Fire said.
The fire department also reported a fifth person’s injuries as minor, but did not describe the type of injury or if they were taken for treatment.
