(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento Police Department will be conducting DUI checkpoints on Monday, the department announced Sunday.
The checkpoint will be held within city limits from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sergeant Anna Mahoney said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
The police department noted that alcohol consumption is not the only thing that can cause impaired driving. Driving under the influence of some prescription medications, certain over-the-counter drugs or marijuana can also result in a DUI.
The police department also said that drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
