Man, 72, Hit by Car after Exiting Bus

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (April 20, 2026) — Patrick Harold McKendry, 72, of Bakersfield, died Friday when a driver hit him after exiting a GET bus on Auburn Street near Tartan Place in Bakersfield.

The deadly collision occurred around 7 p.m. on Friday, April 17th, in the 5600 block of eastbound Auburn Street, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

The woman driving the vehicle had been traveling eastbound on Auburn when she struck the victim. The motorist stopped and cooperated with authorities and the investigation. Police do not suspect speed or alcohol were factors.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Patrick Harold McKendry.
