Stories will take center stage in Bakersfield on Saturday, May 9, as Russo’s Books and Writers of Kern host Writers Row: Meet the Authors, a community event celebrating local voices, creativity and connection.
Held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event is free and open to the public, inviting readers and writers alike to step into a lively literary setting where conversations with authors, live readings and creative activities unfold throughout the day.
Visitors can meet local authors and podcasters, discover unique and collectible books and explore playful experiences such as Blind Dates with a Book, where the joy of reading begins with a bit of mystery. Live music and readings for all ages add to the welcoming, festival-like atmosphere.
Families are especially encouraged to attend. Children can take part in hands-on activities, including creating their own books or bookmarks — an opportunity to turn imagination into something tangible. For those inspired to begin their own writing journey, small inspiration bags offer a thoughtful starting point.
More than a celebration of books, the event also supports a larger purpose. Proceeds from featured opportunity baskets will benefit student scholarships through Writers of Kern, helping nurture the next generation of writers.
Whether you come to meet an author, find your next favorite read, or simply enjoy a creative afternoon, Writers Row offers a reminder that storytelling is something to be shared — across generations, across experiences and across the community.
