SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man has been found guilty of selling drugs, including fentanyl, to an undercover police officer near a BART station over the summer, prosecutors said.
A jury convicted Sebastian Garcia, 31, of two counts of possessing fentanyl and cocaine base for sale and one count of selling a controlled substance, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors say an undercover cop approached the 31-year-old the night of July 9 near the Powell Street BART Station as part of a sting. Garcia then offered to sell the undercover cop fentanyl and cocaine base, prosecutors said.
After the undercover cop paid for the drugs, a group of officers arrested Garcia, the prosecutors. When they searched him, officers found more fentanyl, cocaine base and the money the undercover cop had used to buy the drugs, authorities said.
“The jury’s verdict holds Mr. Garcia accountable and my message to drug dealers and their enablers is simple – we will not relent,” District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a statement Tuesday morning. “Although there is still much work to be done, we will remain laser-focused on shutting open-air drug markets down and delivering justice.”
Garcia will be sentenced in November and faces up to five years in prison, prosecutors said.
