One of the biggest storylines of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival’s second weekend was Sabrina Carpenter’s surprise guest: Madonna. The iconic singer appeared alongside the reigning pop princess for a series of songs, including “Vogue,” “Like a Prayer” and a new duet rumored to be one of the tracks from Madonna’s next album, “Confessions II.”
It was one of those magic Coachella moments — similar to Carpenter bringing out Will Ferrell during Weekend 1 — but it turns out there was a bitter ending to the superstar collaboration.
Madonna’s outfit for the show was pulled from her own vintage archives. In a short monologue during the set, she shared that she was wearing the same boots, corset and jacket that she sported when performing at Coachella 20 years ago, when she celebrated the release of “Confessions on a Dance Floor Pt. 1.” However, in an Instagram story post Monday the artist shared that those items have gone missing.
“These aren’t just clothes, they are part of my history,” Madonna wrote, offering a reward — amount unspecified — for the safe return of the items.
Madonna was just one of many surprise guests during Weekend 2 of the festival, during which some artists upped the ante on their encore performances. Justin Bieber, who received criticism online for a minimal stage show, brought out Billie Eilish, SZA, Sexyy Red and Big Sean. Addison Rae brought out Olivia Rodrigo to debut a new song. PinkPantheress had multiple guests ranging from Dev Hynes to Janelle Monae, and Billy Idol performed alongside Sombr. Karol G shared the stage with Peso Pluma, Becky G, J Balvin and Ryan Castro.
