Last week, I had the pleasure of taking the State of California’s Ethics Training provided by the Office of the Attorney General and the Fair Political Practices Commission. This training is required by all employees, decision-making appointees, and elected officials in the state. Time and again, the training explicitly reminds trainees that ethics laws are minimums and that those of us in these sensitive positions are bound to do what is ethically proper, above and beyond the legal requirements.
