It’s been more than four years since the April 3, 2022, K Street shooting that left six dead and 12 injured as people were leaving bars in one of the city’s popular nightlife corridors. Of the six killed, three were innocent bystanders, and the other three are believed to have been part of the shootout prosecutors say was gang-related.
After the shooting, officials arrested three men in connection with the gunbattle. They are Smiley Martin, Dandrae Martin and Mtula Payton. However, Smiley died in June 2024 while in custody, and his cause of death is believed to have been methadone toxicity.
