LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Long Beach State Dirtbags fell 5-2 to Fresno State in a midweek matchup at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field, as the Bulldogs completed the season sweep after winning the earlier meeting this year.

Fresno State struck first in the opening inning after a two-out rally. A walk and single put runners on the corners before an RBI single to center field brought home the run from third for a 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs added to their lead in the second. With runners on second and third following a single, and a wild pitch which allowed the runner from third to score. Another wild pitch later in the inning brought home a second run from third, extending the lead to 3-0.

Fresno State pushed the margin to 5-0 in the fourth. A single and a walk set up runners on first and second before a double to right field scored both runners, with the lead runner coming around from second and the trailing runner scoring from first.

The Dirtbags broke through in the sixth inning. Camden Gasser worked a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Trotter Enright delivered an RBI single through the left side, scoring Gasser from second to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Long Beach State added another run in the seventh. After a two-out walk put a runner on first, Aaron Perez doubled to right center, bringing the runner all the way home from first to make it 5-2.

Despite lineup adjustments and players stepping into new roles, the Dirtbags continued to compete late. Conner Stewart added a pinch-hit single in the eighth, and Justin Roulston recorded a base hit in the ninth, but Long Beach State was unable to complete the comeback.

The Dirtbags will now turn their attention to a Big West Conference road series at UC Davis this weekend.
