A motorcyclist was struck and killed by a semi truck near Ocotillo Wells in rural East County on Saturday morning, California Highway Patrol said.
The truck driver, a 35-year-old man from El Centro, was going west on state Route 78 at 10:15 a.m. when it veered into eastbound traffic and struck the 67-year-old motorcyclist.
The truck swerved off the road and struck a rock, officials said.
The motorcyclist died at the scene, said CHP Capt. Michael Monteagudo.
The driver of the Freightliner sustained minor injuries, he said.
Though the investigation is ongoing, the CHP said it has ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the incident.
