CATSKILL, N.Y. — Maude Gutman, one of the two characters in Stephen Sachs’ comedic “Bakersfield Mist,” is an irresistible force of nature, especially as she is portrayed by the deeply gravel-voiced Lusia Strus in Bridge Street Theatre’s generally serviceable season-opening production.

The unemployed bartender lives in a home — exquisitely designed by the show’s director, Mark Perry, who also is Bridge Street’s acting artistic director — at a place called Sagebrush Trailer Park in Bakersfield, Calif.
