A rough first inning with multiple defensive miscues resulted in a 3-1 loss for the Los Angeles Dodgers to the San Francisco Giants yesterday

A rough first inning for the Los Angeles Dodgers was the deciding factor in the team’s 3-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants yesterday at Oracle Park.

RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto started the game for Los Angeles. On the first batter of the game, Giants shortstop Willy Adames reached first on an infield single, but advanced to second on a Dodgers shortstop Hyeseong Kim throwing error.

Second baseman Luis Arraez singled, and third baseman Matt Chapman walked to load the bases with no outs on the first three batters of the game. First baseman Rafael Devers singled, designated hitter Casey Schmitt hit a sacrifice fly on a play where center fielder Andy Pages and left fielder Teoscar Hernandez collided, and right fielder Jung Hoo Lee singled to give the Giants a 3-0 lead.

Yamamoto rebounded from that first inning, though, as he pitched the next six innings, allowing zero runs and one hit with seven strikeouts, including striking out the side in the seventh inning.

Meanwhile, though, the Dodgers’ offense couldn’t get a rally going, having just three hits on the night. Their only run of the game came in the fourth inning when Kim walked with the bases loaded, but the Dodgers didn’t get a big hit to drive in multiple runs.

Outfielder Kyle Tucker, the Dodgers’ big-name addition this past offseason, went 0-4 during the game with three strikeouts and his OPS dropped to .705.

The Dodgers play their second game against the Giants tonight at 6:45 p.m.
