And they’re trying to make their lives better,” Lessiak said. Over the past two years, the Assistance League has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to dozens of students. “One of our recipients was a young man living in his car trying to get to school. He received a scholarship, and he now is researching at UC Davis in biochemistry,” Lessiak said. The organization also runs other programs, including teddy bear distributions for hospitals and shelters and a career clothing program that helps homeless women prepare for job interviews. The success of these initiatives is made possible by volunteers and the support of shoppers at “Fabulous Finds on Fulton.”See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
