A person was shot dead in West Oakland on Thursday morning and police made an arrest related to the homicide investigation, authorities said. 

Police were called to 18th and Wood streets just after 11 a.m. Thursday. When officers arrived, they found one victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. 

Officers attempted life-saving measures before paramedics arrived, but the person died before going to a hospital. The identity of the victim was withheld Thursday, pending notification of next of kin. 

One person was taken into custody at the scene in connection to the shooting, an Oakland Police Department spokesperson said Thursday afternoon.

No other information, including a motive, was released.
