SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Police say they are investigating after a child was sexually assaulted Thursday inside a restroom located in one of San Francisco’s most popular parks, according to a report by the San Francisco Chronicle.

The child had been attending a youth soccer practice at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park when they were sexually assaulted, according to the report.

No arrests have been announced, but park officials have established new safety measures, including stationing a ranger near the restrooms between 3 to 5 p.m. on weekdays and installing a new security camera in the area, according to the report.

“As a player-first organization, safety is our top priority,” Eloisa Tejero, the interim executive director of San Francisco Youth Soccer, told the San Francisco Chronicle. “We are glad that SF Rec and Park has increased ranger and video security while youth are using the Polo Fields. We will continue to partner with the community to ensure all players are safe.”

The San Francisco Police Department said in a statement Tuesday that investigators were working “diligently” and described the case as “high priority.”

“Since the incident occurred, SFPD has increased patrols in the Richmond District and is working closely with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department,” police said. “This is an active investigation, and we hope to have an update promptly.”
