SAN JOSE — A motorist hit and killed a pedestrian on Mabury Road on Friday morning, worsening a year in which city roadway deaths have occurred at nearly twice the rate as in 2025, authorities said.
The fatal collision was reported at 9:17 a.m. in the 1400 block of Mabury Road, near the Coyote Creek overcrossing and about a half-mile from the Berryessa BART station.
San Jose police said officers responded to find a gravely injured person, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. Additional details were not immediately released.
Police said road closures were expected near the site for several hours between East Taylor Street and Berryessa Station Way.
The collision marked the city’s 17th traffic death of the year, and the eighth to involve a pedestrian who died. San Jose had recorded nine traffic deaths, five involving pedestrian victims, at the same point in 2025, according to data compiled by this news organization.
