The Del Mar Women’s Giving Collective (DMWGC), a group of charitable-minded women of the 92014 zip code, gathered April 14 at the Del Mar Powerhouse Community Center to hear from the final six San Diego County nonprofits being considered for the 2025 – 2026 giving cycle. DMWGC uses annual donations of $1,100 from each of its members, and through an internal process where members nominate worthy charities, allocates unrestricted financial assistance to a final three organizations each year, according to a news release.
“We are so pleased that our organization has grown to 113 members this year allowing us to provide significant and meaningful grants to our community,” said Sara McMenamin, DMWGC president, in the news release. “For this giving cycle, members came together and nominated 40+ nonprofits for consideration. Through an education and voting process, we have narrowed our final list, and the time has come to disburseour $113,000 to local worthy charities,” she added.
DMWGC provides members the opportunity to come together and collaborate with other philanthropic-minded women in Del Mar and participate in grant making that has a bigger impact than could be accomplished individually. The collective’s process allows members to learn, remain in tune with the needs of local charities, and collectively provide meaningful help in San Diego County, the news release stated.
The six finalists, Doors of Change, Humble Design, Just in Time for Foster Youth, Pathways to Citizenship, Produce Good, and Support the Enlisted Project, made formal pitches to members at the event.
The top three vote-getters will receive $40,000, $33,000, and $25,000 respectively, while the remaining three finalists will each receive $5,000 consolation grants — totaling $113,000 disbursed. Since its founding in early 2018, DMWGC will have awarded more than $500,000 to local San Diego charities, according to the news release.
The final top three grant recipients will be announced May 6 when DMWGC awards the checks at a check presentation and celebration gathering at the Del Mar Plaza.
