Over three days before an audience of more than 17,000 visitors at World of Coffee in San Diego, companies and brands from around the world rolled out new tools and gadgets designed for weighing, grinding, brewing and serving hot and cold coffee drinks in professional settings.
Several had already launched in overseas markets but were making their U.S. debut, while others were being seen for the first time anywhere in the world.

Italian espresso machine and grinder company Sanremo Coffee Machines embraced San Diego’s beach vibes with an elaborate, seaside deck-like booth, where it showcased the D8 One, a new single-group version of its commercial D8 espresso machine. It also held a U.S. premiere of Link, its new technology for communication between grinders and espresso machines for automatic grind adjustments.

The founder of Wyoming-based roasting company Pine Coffee Supply revealed an entirely new commercial brewing system called PIPP, which stands for Percolation, Immersion, Positive Pressure. We’ll have more on this soon.

Commercial batch-brewing pillar Bunn presented the latest addition to its Infusion Series, the Platinum Pro, designed for detailed brew-profile programming for both hot and cold coffee, tea and lemonade.

New coffee retail equipment company The Coffee Dept introduced Barbax, a coffee-focused tap dispensing system allowing customizable tap configurations for both hot and cold liquids, from concentrates and ingredients such as milk to finished beverages.
Muvna Doser and Mammoth Grinder

Chinese equipment maker Muvna drew visitors to its colorful booth with the Mammoth grinder, which features dual interchangeable grind chambers for swapping between 98-millimeter flat and 83-millimeter conical burrs. Also on display was a clever 3-group automatic whole-bean dosing machine with three hoppers for different coffees and knobs with embedded screens for setting the weight of each dose.
La Marzocco Jay Grinder and Modbar Pour-Over

Following up on their debuts at a private event that occurred in conjunction with the HostMilano expo in Milan last October, La Marzocco oriented its booth in San Diego around the touchscreen-free, grind-by-weight commercial Jay grinder and the redesigned Modbar Pour-Over system. The Jay’s physical buttons and analog adjustment dial belie its hidden wi-fi smarts under the hood, while the Pour-Over boasts new powers of programmability and ergonomics.

German grinding powerhouse Mahlkönig slid its new Sync Scale onto a range of espresso machine drip trays around World of Coffee for the device’s U.S. premiere. The scale conveys the time and weight data of real-time espresso shots from any espresso machine to a compatible Mahlkönig grinder for automated grind adjustments. Click here for the original report.

Coffee analytical device maker DiFluid placed the Moment front and center at its booth in San Diego. Designed to arch over a freshly brewed coffee, with a bottom-mounted touchless thermometer reading the drink’s surface temperature, the Moment’s full-color touchscreen displays a series of tasting notes as temperatures change for a guided tasting experience.

Commercial cold brew equipment brand Hive Brew by Torr brought its newest and smallest brewer to World of Coffee. Called the Hive Brew One, the electronics-free Kyoto-style cold drip brewer is intended for use in small cafes or cocktail bars and holds roughly a quarter pound of ground coffee beneath a 16-ounce reservoir connected by an analog water-metering mechanism inspired by Japanese shishi-odoshi.

Automated commercial pourover machine maker Mundo Novo revealed a modular 2-group version of its signature machine called the CS2. Each brew group can be programmed and operated independently, including when one side is down for maintenance, while both offer the same programmability features and boiler-free electric water-heating performance as the original single-group versions.
