The future of artistic expression has an official opening date.

On Saturday, June 20, 2026, Los Angeles will welcome DATALAND, the world’s very first Museum of AI Arts. Co-founded by Refik Anadol and Efsun Erkılıç, this groundbreaking institution promises to be a living, breathing ecosystem where human imagination meets the creative potential of machine intelligence.

If you are an art enthusiast, a tech follower, or simply looking for the next great cultural experience in SoCal, you’re going to want to read more about what’s coming!

A New Crown Jewel in Downtown LA

DATALAND is set to take its place among the iconic institutions of the Grand Avenue Cultural District. The museum’s flagship 35,000-square-foot space — featuring five galleries and advanced technology facilities — is located at The Grand LA, the stunning complex designed by legendary architect Frank Gehry.

“Bringing DATALAND to life in Los Angeles is incredibly meaningful,” said Erkılıç. “With
DATALAND, we are opening a space that brings together artists, scientists, and pioneers, and we invite the public to experience storytelling in a completely new way.”

The museum will open its doors with a monumental inaugural exhibition presented by Refik Anadol Studio: Machine Dreams: Rainforest.

Running from June 20, 2026, to January 31, 2027, this exhibition serves as a profound narrative exploring the deepening relationship between artificial intelligence and the natural world. The exhibition utilizes the Large Nature Model (LNM). The LNM is the world’s first open source, generative AI model dedicated to nature.

What to expect in the galleries:

Real-Time Evolution: Experience a living environment that constantly shifts based on audience biofeedback and massive ecological datasets.

Ancestral Knowledge: Discover computational art deeply intertwined with spiritual teachings and cosmology.

Poignant Reflections: Visit the Infinity Room to reflect on ecological loss, featuring the haunting, unanswered call of the extinct “Kauaʻi ʻŌʻō” bird.

Dynamic Surroundings: Feel the rainforest come alive as distant ecological shifts physically alter the gallery’s light, temperature, and visual forms.
