IRVINE, Calif. – The top-seeded University of Hawai’i men’s volleyball team will seek its fifth OUTRIGGER Big West Championship when it meets second-seeded Long Beach State, Friday at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif. The Rainbow Warriors (27-4) advanced to the title match after a 3-1 victory over UC San Diego in Friday’s semifinals while the Beach (23-4) defeated host UC Irvine in the other semifinal.

UH has the most Big West Championship titles among the league (2019, ’22, ’23, and ’25).
Hawai’i has a 4-1 all-time record in the finals. UH’s only loss was to Long Beach State in 2018 in Long Beach.
UH is 3-1 versus Long Beach State in the tournament with all four meetings occurring in the championship match. UH defeated the Beach in 2019, ’22, and ’25 and lost in 2018.
UH is the tournament’s No. 1 seed for the third time after previously earning the nod in 2021 (lost in semis) and 2023 (won championship).
The only other time the tournament was held in Irvine, Calif., was 2023 when UH defeated UC Santa Barbara (semis) and host UC Irvine (finals) en route to the championship.
UH has an 11-3 all-time record in the Big West Championship tournament.
UH head coach Charlie Wade has an all-time record of 15-9 in 13 conference tournament appearances (MPSF and Big West) having advanced to the championship match seven times with four titles.
UH swept the season series in Long Beach, Calif., March 20-21, winning both matches at the Pyramid for the first time as Big West members. Hawai’i took the opener in five sets and the rematch in three sets.
UH’s 27 wins is tied for the third-most all-time.
The 106 all-time meetings against LBSU are the most  against a single-opponent in program history. The series is tied, 53-53.

 
BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY


UH has captured four Big West Championship titles (2019, ’22, ’23, and ’25) and have appeared in the title match five times (2018, ’19, ’22, ’23, and ’25).
UH has an 11-3 all-time record in the Big West Championship.
UH has the most tournament titles among the Big West schools.

UH has been the tournament’s No. 1 seed twice prior, in 2021 and 2023.
A Rainbow Warrior has won the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award four times, including two-time winner Jakob Thelle (2022-23).
Hawai’i hosted the Big West Championship in 2019, ’21, ’22, ’24, and ’25, winning the title in three of those years (2019, ’22, and ’25). Long Beach State hosted and won the title in 2018 and UC Irvine hosted the 2023 tournament, which UH won.
