One officer was shot but was protected by his bulletproof vest. “He was shot from very close distance with a very powerful gun, and the vest did the job,” Trump said.Law enforcement exchanged gunfire with the suspect. He was not hit by gunfire and was taken to a hospital to be evaluated, D.C. officials said. Trump described the suspect as being a “lone wolf.” He shared two photos on Truth Social of the suspected shooter being restrained on the ground while shirtless. The president also shared surveillance footage on Truth Social from the Washington Hilton that showed security opening fire. Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were among the top administration figures in attendance who were evacuated. The gunman did not make it to the banquet hall.
