A search is underway in California for a murder suspect who was accidentally released from jail last week.

Isaiah Jamon Andrews of Kent, Washington, was released Oct. 22 from the Martinez Detention Facility in Martinez, California.

Andrews, 20, was being held on local charges, a juvenile warrant out of Sacramento and an out-of-state warrant for homicide, the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday.

After the staff realized Andrews had been mistakenly released, a search of the immediate area was launched, but he was not found.

The sheriff’s office said it was investigating the circumstances surrounding his release.

The search is ongoing and the U.S. Marshals Service is assisting. The agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.

Police in Seattle said in a news release Oct. 20 that Andrews was arrested in California following a vehicle pursuit. He is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man in the parking lot of a Seattle hotel.

He was being held in California, awaiting extradition to King County.
