The Edmonton Oilers and the Anaheim Ducks meet Sunday at Honda Center in Anaheim, California, for Game 4 of their best-of-7, Western Conference first-round playoff series. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze NHL odds around the Oilers vs. Ducks and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Best-of-7 series: Ducks lead 2-1

The Ducks picked up a 7-4 victory in Game 3 Friday as slight underdogs (+116) as the Over (7) cashed for the third time in as many games. Anaheim had 7 different goal scorers, with C Leo Carlsson credited with the game-winning tally, while he finished with 2 points. D Jackson LaCombe ended up with a goal and an assist, and C Mikael Granlund finished with a power-play goal and 4 points.

For the Oilers, C Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist, while C Leon Draisaitl was good for 2 helpers. D Evan Bouchard also had a pair of assists.

Edmonton is averaging 4.0 goals per game (GPG) on offense, yet it trails 2-1 in the series. Anaheim has scored 5.3 PPG, and it’s no surprise the Over is 3 for 3 in this series.

Connor Ingram (16-10-3, 2.60 GAA, .898 SV%, 2 SO – regular season) vs. Lukas Dostal (30-20-4, 3.12 GAA, .888 SV% – regular season)

Ingram coughed up 6 goals on 38 shots, and he is now 1-2-0 with a 4.70 GAA and .849 SV% in 3 starts. He is on the hot seat after leading his team to a Game 1 victory. Tristan Jarry (18-9-3, 3.32 GAA, .882 SV%, 2 SO) could see his first action of the series if Ingram is given a short leash.

Dostal has allowed 4 goals in each of his 3 starts. Despite a 4.05 GAA and .874 SV% in 3 games in the series, the Anaheim tendy and his team are ahead going into Game 4.

Oilers at Ducks picks and predictionsPrediction

Oilers 5, Ducks 3

BACK EDMONTON (-140) in Game 4, as it looks to level the series before heading back to Alberta for Game 5.

Ingram has not been getting the job done, and he is now on the hot seat. The Oilers have been to the Stanley Cup Final in the past 2 seasons, but they haven’t faced a first-round challenge like this in their recent run, and a big reason for the struggles have been shoddy defense and goaltending.

EDMONTON -1.5 (+165) should be trusted ever so lightly. Don’t get carried away, though.

Dostal has allowed 4 goals in each of the first 3 games of this season, so Edmonton is going to get its fair share of scores. The concern is whether or not Ingram can shut the door, and keep it closed.

OVER 7 (-110) is the lean, but don’t go crazy. A flat 7 is risky business in the playoffs, and scores tend to decrease as a series goes along. But, we’ve had 7, 10 and 11 goals, so the offense has been increasing in each of the games so far.

Eventually we’re going to get some defense and good goaltending, or at least adequate work between the pipes. Until such point, keep slamming the Over.
