SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man has been found guilty of a violent cellphone robbery at a BART station in 2024, prosecutors said.
A jury convicted Rolondo Christopher Clyburn, 43, of second-degree robbery in connection with the crime, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.
Clyburn followed a woman into the Civic Center BART Station on May 8, 2024. While she waited for the train, the 43-year-old stole her phone, prosecutors said.
The woman saw Clyburn two minutes later and tried to retrieve her phone. That’s when Clyburn started punching and kicking her, according to prosecutors. At some point, he also covered her mouth so she could not scream for help, authorities said.
Clyburn will be sentenced on Nov. 5, when a judge will consider aggravating factors and prior convictions, prosecutors said.
He faces up to 15 years in state prison, prosecutors said.
