A suspect was barricaded inside a building adjacent to the San Jose State University campus for hours Monday night, following a family disturbance involving a weapon, police said.
Officers from the San Jose Police Department responded to the 200 block of South Fourth Street at around 5:30 p.m. Monday. The block, which houses several apartment buildings, is across the street from an SJSU gym complex and multiple classroom buildings.
The SJSU Police Department confirmed that the incident was not affiliated with the campus, although campus police also responded to the scene.
Several surrounding streets were closed by 6:30 p.m. Monday.
A SJPD spokesperson said officers were “still working toward a peaceful resolution” with the suspect as of 7:15 p.m. The spokesperson did not respond when asked what kind of weapon the suspect had used or whether the suspect was still armed.
