Los Angeles thrives on a steady stream of cultural events that reflect its multicultural identity. These gatherings are part of the city’s social fabric, shaping what makes it vibrant and cosmopolitan. A clear example is the AAPI L.A. Market, which brings together Asian American and Pacific Islander vendors, chefs, and creatives in a celebration of food, craft, and community.

Held at Smorgasburg, the AAPI L.A. Market has become one of the signature cultural takeovers within the city’s broader food scene. This year’s will take place on Sunday, May 17, and continues the tradition of spotlighting baked goods, savory street food, packaged specialties, and creative merchandise, all rooted in diverse cultural backgrounds and local entrepreneurship.

Beyond food, the market is designed as a full-day community experience, with live music, cultural programming, and family-friendly activities. Past editions have included pop-up installations, partner booths from community organizations, and interactive spaces that highlight AAPI stories and initiatives in the city.

Smorgasburg is a weekly open-air food market held every Sunday at ROW DTLA. Launched in June 2016 as a West Coast spin-off of the original Brooklyn Smorgasburg, it has quickly become a major fixture in the city’s food and cultural landscape.

The market features dozens of rotating vendors offering street food, desserts, drinks, and artisanal products, alongside a beer garden and occasional live music programming.

Today, Smorgasburg is widely described as the largest weekly open-air food market in the city, with more than 90 vendors participating on peak days, attracting an estimated 8,000 to 12,000 visitors every Sunday.
