OAKLAND — A 38-year-old bicyclist, struck Monday night in East Oakland by an SUV that kept going, was in grave condition Tuesday, authorities said.
The name of the injured man was not released. Authorities said he is believed to be unhoused.
The collision happened about 7:24 p.m. Monday in the area of 23rd Avenue and East 22nd Street.
According to initial police reports, the bicyclist had just turned onto 23rd Avenue from East 22nd Street when he was struck by a black Land Rover SUV that did not stop. It was last seen going southbound on 23rd Avenue.
The bicyclist was ejected onto the sidewalk and suffered major injuries, police said.
A detailed description of the vehicle driver was not released.
It is not known at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision, police said.
