A Bakersfield man is heading to prison for committing wire fraud and identification theft.

U.S. District Judge Jennifer Thurston sentenced Kyle Matthew Lisman, 30, to five years in prison for wire fraud, possessing stolen mail and aggravated identity theft.

Driving the news: From January 2023 to July 2023, Lisman stole identities to defraud victims by using the name, social security number and other information to fraudulently obtain a car at a Bakersfield dealership.

Lisman paid $40,000 to purchase the car on the dealership’s website under the victim’s identity.

He presented the dealership with a fake driver’s license created from the victim’s actual license with Lisman’s picture.

Go deeper: Along with car dealership fraud, Lisman also fraudulently caused other people’s mail to be forwarded to his home by submitting fake change of address forms.

In September 2023, Lisman had several credit cards, checks and debit cards in other people’s names.

He opened credit and debit cards in other people’s names and used those cards to withdraw thousands of dollars’ worth of cash and purchases.

Flashback: He pleaded guilty on Jan. 26.
