ANTIOCH – A 22-year-old Oakland man was charged Tuesday with the murder of a woman earlier this year in Antioch, prosecutors said.
Zahvon Hopson was arraigned on a multi-count criminal complaint stemming from the shooting death of Dimon Lasly Commodore, 22, of Antioch, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. In addition to murder, the charges include possession of a firearm by a felon with a prior conviction and unlawful firearm activity.
Prosecutors said the murder charge carries an enhancement for personally and intentionally discharging a firearm causing injury and death, and the unlawful firearm activity count includes special allegations citing prior offenses in Contra Costa and Alameda counties.
Hopson pleaded not guilty at the arraignment; denied all charges, allegations and enhancements; and waived his right to a speedy trial. A preliminary hearing date is pending.
Officers found Commodore suffering from two gunshot wounds while responding to a 911 call in the 2200 block of Sycamore Drive on Feb. 19. Commodore was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hopson left the scene before officers arrived, but he was later found in San Diego and arrested April 10 with the help of local authorities, according to the district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors said Hopson is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility on $2.19 million bail.
