BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Downtown Elementary was under a brief lockdown Monday morning following a threat call made to the school, according to school officials.
The Downtown campus received a call from someone using a blocked number at around 10:45 a.m., who threatened harm to the school, according to a letter sent out to the community by Principal Lynn McEntire.
School staff immediately enacted all safety protocols and placed the school on lockdown, the letter said.
The Bakersfield Police Department arrived and investigated, which included a search of all classrooms. The school lifted the lockdown at around 11:15 a.m. once all students and staff were confirmed to be safe.
Police will be present and visible at the campus, officials said.
“The police department assures us that the person or people accountable will be punished to the fullest extent of the law,” McEntire said in the letter. “We implore you as parents, teachers and students to understand that posting, perpetuating or communicating these threats is a criminal offense.”
