Tortilla legacy honored

East Los Angeles—Francisco “Pancho” Ramirez, the late founder of La Princesita Tortilleria, has been inducted into the Tortilla Hall of Fame by the Tortilla Industry Association, the company announced. Ramirez, who died in 2019, founded La Princesita more than five decades ago, building the family-owned tortilleria into a longtime East L.A. staple. La Princesita President Monica Ramirez accepted the honor on behalf of her father, joined by her siblings and mother, Amalia Ramirez, who thanked the association for recognizing her husband’s legacy. La Princesita makes corn and flour tortillas daily at its East L.A. and Boyle Heights locations on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue.

Plus-size boutique closes 

Atwater Village—After more than a decade of offering second-hand and vintage plus-size clothing, Marcy Guevar-Prete is calling it quits, according to the L.A. Times. The reality-TV producer turned retail operator started her boutique business first with an actual bus in 2013 (aka The Plus Bus,) followed by a brick and mortar store in Glassell Park (2015) and then a move to Highland Park in 2018. Citing rising rent, the store was recently relocated to Atwater Village under the banner Perfect 10+. But after six months, that location hadn’t turned a profit, so Guevar-Prete is permanently closing the store and held a farewell sale last weekend.
