BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A protester accused of resisting police and shattering a glass door at a city council meeting has been granted entry to a diversion program.
Over the objection of prosecutors, Lorena Salinas, one of several pro-Palestinian protesters who allegedly disrupted and refused to leave a March 2024 meeting, was placed on diversion for one year.
If she stays away from City Hall, doesn’t pick up another case and complies with other terms, her case will be dismissed, prosecutors said. Diversion was granted last week.
She initially faced felony counts of resisting arrest and vandalism, as well as misdemeanor counts of remaining at the scene of a riot and resisting arrest.
When officials ordered chambers cleared during the March 27 meeting, Salinas allegedly resisted officers and pulled on the doors of Bakersfield City Hall South with enough force she shattered glass.
Another protester, Gabriela Lynn Mota, was accused of spitting on an officer. She was allowed into a diversion program last year.
