The Berkeley Police Department closed the 1700 block of Shattuck Avenue to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic after discovering a “suspicious suitcase” in the area. As of press time, all streets are now open.

The suitcase, which was reportedly making “beeping noises,” was found in the surrounding bushes, according to BPD officer Byron White.

BPD officers trained to handle explosives have been called onto the scene, according to BPD Officer Byron White.

BPD is currently advising people to avoid the area.
