Inland valleys of the North Bay, East Bay and South Bay will continue to warm up Thursday as temperatures remain steady along the coast and bay shoreline.
The coastal fog bank is expected to become better organized Thursday and even more so Friday, keeping coastal and bayshore cities cool to mild, in the low 60s. Meanwhile, inland areas should climb to the mid- to upper 70s, about 4 to 8 degrees above late April norms.
Downtown San Francisco will be somewhere in the middle, in the mid- to upper 60s, with morning fog giving way to afternoon sunshine. The forecast high of 67 degrees and low of 53 is one of the city’s most common temperature combinations.
Similar temperatures are in store Friday amid increasing high clouds. A weekend cooldown is expected to be accompanied by a chance of drizzle.
San Francisco: April will wrap up in typical San Francisco fashion, with patchy morning fog and afternoon sunshine, with highs reaching the low to mid-60s west of Twin Peaks and mid- to upper 60s downtown before the sea breeze kicks in and knocks temperatures to the 50s citywide by the evening. Thicker fog is expected overnight, with a low around 53.
North Bay: Another round of morning fog will be followed by clear skies in the afternoon. Highs will nudge into the upper 70s in Santa Rosa, Napa, Vallejo and Fairfield, with low 80s in Vacaville and mid-70s in San Rafael and Mill Valley. Sausalito and coastal areas will remain in the mid- to upper 60s. The sea breeze will bring gusts of 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Lows will be in the upper 40s to low 50s.
East Bay: Patchy morning fog along the bay shoreline and in the Tri-Valley will give way to sunny skies by midday. Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, Alameda, San Leandro and Hayward will be in the upper 60s to low 70s, while Fremont and areas east of the Caldecott Tunnel will reach the mid- to upper 70s. The bay breeze will bring gusts around 10 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Overnight lows will be in the low to mid-50s with an extensive fogbank developing over the bay.
Pacific Coast and Peninsula: The weather will closely mirror Wednesday, with patchy fog along the coast and sunny skies along the Highway 101 corridor. Highs will be in the low 60s in Daly City, Pacifica and Half Moon Bay and the mid-60s to low 70s in South San Francisco, San Mateo and Redwood City, warmest to the south. The sea breeze will bring occasional gusts of 20 mph or stronger, particularly in San Bruno. Overnight lows will be in the low to mid-50s with increasing low clouds and fog.
South Bay and Santa Cruz: San Jose is in line for its warmest day in more than three weeks with highs in the upper 70s, while Gilroy and Morgan Hill could reach 80. Sunnyvale and Milpitas will get hit by the afternoon bay breeze slightly sooner, capping temperatures in the mid-70s. Gusts of up to 20 mph are expected. A high of 70 is forecast in Santa Cruz, with temperatures 5 to 10 degrees warmer in the mountains. Overnight lows will be in the upper 40s to low 50s with widespread fog expected along the coast and in the valleys.
