Swedish singer-songwriter Sofia Talvik has played in the Pacific Northwest many times and sees similarities between the region and her home country of Sweden. “It does feel a little like home in a way, with the forests, the cliffs and the ocean,” she said. “I once took a photo in Seattle and posted it on my Facebook and had several friends ask me if I was back in Stockholm, Sweden.”
Talvik will be returning to the area for a concert of Nordic folk songs and stories as a part of her three-month-long 2026 United States tour called “Songs, Strings and Stories” at 4 p.m. May 6 at the Peninsula Arts Center in Long Beach, 504 504 Pacific Ave N. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be found at: tinyurl.com/3ws55y7c. and more information can be found at: peninsulaartscenter.org/ or by calling 360-901-0962.
Born in Gothenburg, Sweden, Talvik grew up on an island north of Gothenburg called Orust. She released her first album in 2005 and her tenth one last year. She began touring the U.S. in 2011 — excluding the pandemic years — and has toured here for three to five months every year since then covering 49 states.
Her connection to the U.S. comes through in her music which is described as an ethereal blend of Nordic folk and Americana. Her favorite American artists and influences include Neko Case and Jason Isbell among others. “I think mostly what it means is that I make folk and Americana music, but it’s filtered through my nordic heritage. We all carry our roots with us, and I think that contributes to subtle differences in my music compared to artists from other places,” she said.
For her visit to the Long Beach, audiences can expect a carefully curated setlist featuring highlights from across her extensive catalog, along with newer material introduced on this year’s tour. Talvik describes the show as “very acoustic,” but adds “it has a little bit of a bigger sound than most solo artists” adding in fun additional elements like foot percussion. She said that longtime fans will recognize songs like ”Can You Read My Mind” which was just released a week ago: tinyurl.com/wvc43pa6.
Talvik is also just as happy to connect with new fans. “It’s always great to see people I’ve met before, as well as new faces at my shows. If you haven’t seen me before I just hope to bring you an evening of a little bit of everything, some laughs, some tears and of course a lot of stories in-between the songs. In times that feel uncertain and overwhelming, music can offer a moment of stillness,” said Talvik. “I’m excited to share an afternoon of songs and stories in such a beautiful community space.”
